#TheShowIsHere: 2A State, Day 1

KISSIMMEE — Just one team stands in Fleming Island’s way after the first day of competition in Thursday’s FHSAA 2A state tournament at Silver Spurs Arena.

Tampa Jesuit, the team that knocked out the Golden Eagles in the 2A state dual semifinals in January, leads Fleming Island by 1.5 points, 34-32.5, after the first day.

The Golden Eagles have 10 wrestlers left in competition, with nine of them in the quarterfinals and one in the blood round of consolations.

Charlotte (28 points), Lake Gibson (27) and Winter Springs (24) round out the top five teams statewide.

New Smyrna Beach is a half-point ahead of Lincoln, 11-10.5, for eighth and ninth, respectively. The Barracudas have three in the quarters, while Lincoln has two quarterfinalists and three in the consis.

Niceville is currently T-16th, with eight points and three quarterfinalists, while Matanzas is T-22nd with seven points, two quarterfinalists and one in the blood round. Mosley is 25th with 5.5 points and two quarterfinalists, while Fletcher (one quarterfinalist), Ft Walton Beach (one quarterfinalist), Leon (one quarterfinalist) and Pace (four in consis) are all T-29th with four points.

Columbia (one quarterfinalist), Gulf Breeze (one in blood round), Middleburg (two in consis) and Ridgeview (one quarterfinalist) are each T-42nd with three points, while Chiles (one in consis), Englewood (one quarterfinalist) and St Augustine (one quarterfinalist) are each T-59th, with two points. Choctaw, with one point and one in the consis, is T-66th.

Belleview, Orange Park and Westside did not score on Thursday.
