#TheShowIsHere: Girls State, Day 2

KISSIMMEE — Two all-coverage area finals will take over the spotlight in the inaugural FHSAA girls’ state tournament in Saturday’s finals at Silver Spurs Arena.

At 120 pounds, Dr Phillips senior Juliana Diaz and Tocoi Creek junior Brielle Bibla will square off; two weights later, seniors Kaylee Easter (Wewahitchka) and Madisyn Blackburn (Clay) wlll face off for the 130 title.

The quartet are part of 10 area girls that will be inaugural finalists in the first FHSAA-sanctioned girls’ tournament.

Diaz (9-0 post-season) and Bibla (25-1) both have three pins en route to the 120 final, while Easter (26-14) has two pins and a decision, while Blackburn (30-3) has pinned her way through at 130.

At 100, Mosley sophomore Valarie Solorio (30-4, 3 pins) will take on Lake Gibson’s Gabriele Tedesco (33-1, 2 pins & major), while Matanzas freshman Tiana Fries (18-2, 3 pins) squares off against Mater Lakes sophomore Sofia Ferran (18-1, 2 pins & decision).

Ponte Vedra junior Olivia Richie (10-1 post-season, 3 pins) will face Miami Coral Park sophomore Sofia Delgado (8-0 post-season, 2 pins & decision) in the 140 final, while Timber Creek’s Chloe Shull (32-0, 3 pins) will wrestle North Miami’s Mya Bethel (15-0, 2 pins & major) in the 155 championship.

At 170, Mosley junior Henlee Haynes (14-0, 3 pins) takes on Celebration junior Hayeni Costa (20-1, 2 pins & major), while Orange Park senior Andrea Smith (7-0 post-season, 3 pins) wrestles Freedom senior Kiara Brin (26-0, 2 pins & major) in the 235 final.

Team-wise, four area teams are chasing runnerup North Miami for second, as Matanzas is third (53 points), Timber Creek fourth (49.5), Mosley fifth (48) and Ponte Vedra sixth (47). Freedom, with 114 points, has doubled up North Miami, 114-57, through Friday’s competition.

Tocoi Creek is 11th with 31 points, followed by Apopka, Clay and Dr Phillips all T-12th (30); Westside 16th (29), Orange Park T-18th (24), Mainland T-21st (23), Wewahitchka T-26th (22), Middleburg 34th (18), Crestview T-37th (15), Bartram Trail T-39th (14), Raines T-41st (13), Hagerty T-45th (12), Oakleaf T-47th (11), University (Orange City) T-56th (10), Deltona T-59th (nine), West Port T-65th (eight), Lincoln, Nease & Windermere all T-70th (six), Oviedo & Tate T-76th (four), Ed White T-83rd (three), Seminole 89th (two).
