#TheSeason2021-22: Wakulla

We are once again compiling #TheSeason recaps.

We will sweep through each district, one at a time, until all 100 teams are completed. Our next district in rotation is 1A-District 2 and the final team to be completed in the district is Wakulla. I had full results for the War Eagles in 2021-22; records are as compiled.

Win/loss record: 12-2 in duals as reported online.

Season in a nutshell:

  • 4th at Border Wars IX, December 3-4 (21 teams).
  • 2nd at Capital City Classic, December 10-11 (17 teams; B Team 17th).
  • 1st at Joe Bees Memorial Battle of the Border, January 7-8 (15 teams).
  • 1st at Gator Brawl, January 14-15 (17 teams).
  • 1st at Big Bend Invitational, January 28-29 (18 teams).
  • 5th at Tony Ippolito Memorial, February 5 (26 teams).
  • 1st at 1A-District 2 IBT, February 18 (6 teams).
  • 3rd at 1A-Region 1 IBT, February 25-26 (31 teams).
  • 20th at 1A State IBT, March 3-5 (72 teams).

Projected key returners (15+ matches or post-season experience this past season) for 2022-23 (with year in school as of next season): Conner Brown (senior, 38-18 at 113, District 2 runnerup, Region 1 4th, 1 match from state medal); Anthony Fondo (sophomore, 17-18 at 113/120, did not compete in post-season traditional); Caleb Orr (senior, 26-15 at 120, District 2 champ, 2-2 at Region 1); David Culley (junior, 14-7 at 120/126, did not compete in post-season traditional); Nate Jacobs (sophomore, 18-11 at 132, did not compete in post-season traditional); Wyatt Welch (senior, 30-14 at 138, District 2 champ, 1-2 at Region 1); Jae T Thaxton (senior, 44-14 at 152, District 2 runnerup, Region 1 4th, 1 match from state medal); Zabdiel Garcia-Esquilin (senior, 8-16 at 160, did not compete in post-season traditional); Sultan Ellington (sophomore, 18-21 at 195, District 2 3rd, 0-2 at Region 1); Kohl Pippin (junior, 35-17 at 220, District 2 runnerup, Region 1 4th, 0-2 at states); Aaron Caquimbo (junior, 9-17 at 220/285, did not compete in post-season traditional).

Projected losses (10+ reported matches or post-season experience this past season) via graduation unless otherwise noted: Julian Harvey (45-7 at 106, District 2 runnerup, Region 1 runnerup, state 7th); Juan Jimenez (39-11 at 126, District 2 runnerup, Region 1 runnerup, 1 match from state medal); Isaiah Wilson (47-9 at 132, District 2 runnerup, Region 1 3rd, state 6th); Hayden Reeves (50-8 at 145, District 2 champ, Region 1 3rd, 1 match from state medal); Aiden Fetterhoff (11-23 at 160, District 2 4th, 0-2 at Region 1); Daniel Brattain (27-16 at 170, District 2 runnerup, 1 match from states); Tyler Edenfield (38-12 at 182, District 2 champ, Region 1 runnerup, 0-2 at states); Jacob Cardoza (15-7 at 285, District 2 champ, 1-2 at Region 1).
