#Rumble: TCHS’ Thomas, Proulx Go Unbeaten

By MATMEN, Thursday, 1:20 p.m.

ORLANDO — In Wednesday’s four-team girls’ rumble event at Timber Creek, visiting Freedom — the odds-on favorite to repeat as Region 2 champion — flexed its muscle in claiming seven weight-class wins, including each of the top four weights in the uppers.

The host Lady Wolfpack was the only area team in the field, which also hosted Winter Springs and East River.

TCHS wrestlers Taylor Thomas (125) and Hayden Proulx (145) both won weight-class group titles Wednesday.

Thomas took a pair of pins over Freedom wrestlers, in 1:56 and 2:27 respectively, in the first and third rounds of the three-girl 125 class. Thomas, ranked 10th at 120 by Kabra Wrestling, falled 13th-ranked Alissa Brown-Washington with her second-period pin for the weight-class victory.

At 145, Proulx had three first-period falls (1 minute over Winter Springs, 1:11 over Freedom and 1:28 over a second Freedom competitor) for her unbeaten night.

Megan Canete (130-135), Allesandra Lammers (140), Gabriela DeFreitas (155) and Martina Nielsen (190) were each second in their weight divisions. Canete lost only to former Lake Howell competitor Kiersten Flanagan (10th at 130, now at Winter Springs), while Lammers’ lone loss was to 7th-ranked Isabel Perez of Freedom at 140. DeFreitas’ and Nielsen’s only respective losses were to Freedom as well.

Results from the rumble can be found HERE.

The Lady Wolfpack will stage another rumble on December 7 for their next competition, with Lyman joining them in competition.
