GARDENDALE, AL — Pace was the lone Florida team competing in last weekend’s Gardendale Invitational two-day IBT event.
The Patriots were 12th of 29 teams in the tournament, won by Homewood AL with 196.5 points.
Leading the charge was senior Ty Morgan (17th-2A at 170), who reached the 170 final.
After opening with a fall over the third seed from Jasper AL, Morgan had pins over wrestlers from Gardendale and Mountain Brook to get to the semis, where he took a 13-6 win over a Fort Payne wrestler behind four takedowns — at least one in each period — plus a 3-point turn in the first period.
He didn’t have answers for unbeaten McAdory AL senior and top seed Aiden Knight, taking an 8-3 loss in the final.
Two additional Pace wrestlers earned top-four finishes, as Maeson Otwell took third at 138 and Trenton Goodale placed fourth at 220. Otwell was 5-1 on the weekend, while Goodale was 4-2.
