DELTONA — With two titles in hand, University (Orange City) put up the top Matmen-area team performance at the inaugural Pineda Invitational Friday evening at Deltona HS.
The Lady Titans had no answers for Gateway’s overall strength up top, as the Kissimmee visitors rolled up more than double the points of University, 159-72, for the team win, behind five titles. Oviedo (63 points) was third and picked up the other weight-class win, while DeLand (22), Seabreeze (15) and Deltona (14) rounded out the rest of the field.
Jaelyn Sunseri (105) and Bryanne Kaminsky (135) both were victorious for the Lady Titans in their respective weights.
Sunseri (19th at 105) picked up a pair of quick pins (91 seconds combined) for her tournament medal, pinning DeLand’s Yosselyn Flores in 37 seconds in round 2 of 3 for the title. After a quarterfinal bye at 135, Kaminsky (5th at 135) needed 1:59 in two rounds to claim her first-place medal, with a fall in the final (1:07) over Oviedo’s Sarah Edmiston.
The Lady Lions’ Camryn Harber also won her weight class, taking the 110-pound title with two pins as well, falling a Gateway wrestler in the third period (4:44) in the final round.
In addition to Flores at 105 and Edmiston at 135, the hosts’ Raegan Hatch (14th at 125) and Oviedo’s Delaney Graves (15th at 145) reached the final at their weights, with both falling to Gateway wrestlers.
Gateway finished first and second at 130, 170 and 190.
