#Recap: FWB’s Brundidge 3rd at Swede Umbach

AUBURN, AL — Ft Walton Beach split up its varsity squad this weekend, with a delegation hitting the road over the state line to compete in the Vikings’ Week 2 annual fixture, the Swede Umbach Invitational.

Ft Walton Beach was the only team in the top 15 to send a single-digit group of wrestlers, as the Vikings’ eight were 15th with 74.5 points.

Leading the charge for FWBHS was senior Daruis Brundidge, who placed third at 195. Brundidge pinned his way into Saturday’s semifinals with first-period pins over Troup (GA) and Huntsville (AL), taking a third-period TF loss to the eventual champion from Hewitt-Trussville (AL). In the consis, Brundidge decisioned wrestlers from Spain Park (AL) (4-2) and McAdory (AL) (8-5) to claim third.

Two additional Ft Walton wrestlers reached the blood round. At 120, Zak Vosburgh won four matches on the back of the bracket after dropping his match to the eventual runnerup from Enterprise (AL) in the round of 16, while Connor Roberts (170) reached the quarters and had two pins on the back before falling to the eventual 3rd-place finisher from Lambert (GA).

Ft Walton Beach will return next to competition by hosting its own two-day Beast of the Beach duals tournament on December 22-23.
