COCOA — After some setbacks at Ponte Vedra’s Own The Ocean last weekend, South Lake’s girls team bounced back solidly on Saturday at Space Coast’s Skyler White one-day girls’ IBT.
The Lady Eagles were second in the 12-team tournament, scoring 80 points as a group, powered by the title efforts of Grisbet Guzman (140) and Zoe Williamson (155), plus a pair of runnerup finishes.
Guzman (9th at 135) max-pointed through her day to collect the 140 title, with pins over Viera’s Emma Hoppe (4:39, 16th at 140) and Oak Ridge’s Jade Camacho (2:57, 20th at 140), plus additional pins over Oak Ridge and Lincoln Park Academy to go along with an injury-default win over Viera.
Williamson (5th at 145) also had five victories in taking the 155 championship, pinning her way through the day, with second-period falls over Cocoa Beach and Space Coast, followed by first-period pins over Merritt Island, Lincoln Park Academy and a second Cocoa Beach wrestler.
Justina Acevedo (120) and Talia Augustine (125) both recorded runnerup finishes for the Lady Eagles as well. Acevedo had four pins in the 120 class, with her only loss to 14th-rated (120) Abigail Guillaume of Bayside, while Augustine was 2-1 with two pins and her only loss to Lincoln Park Academy.
Guzman and Williamson were not the only local champions in the field, as Flagler Palm Coast’s Joslyn Johnson took the 105 title.
Johnson recorded four falls in 4:38, with pins over South Lake, Bayside and two Lincoln Park Academy wrestlers. She was Flagler’s only competitor; the Bulldogs scored 18 points from her for 10th place.
South Lake’s Haley Harvey was 4th at 105, while Seabreeze (8th with 26 points) got 3rds from Gianna Rocca (125) and Caitlyn Cavalluzzo (130) and a 4th from Kenzey Tisher (130).
