
LAKE CITY — Five area girls’ wrestlers won titles in Saturday’s Tiger Duals – Girls’ Roundrobin, hosted by Columbia.
Girls wrestlers from seven teams — six of them within the coverage area — competed in the one-day event, the first time that girls’ competition was contested as a standalone event in the history of the Tigers’ annual third-weekend fixture on the schedule.
Baker County’s Makayla Johnson won the 100-110 block, with two pins, including a fall over 20th-ranked Hayden Hauck of North Bay Haven; Hauck was 1-1 and placed second.
In the 115-120 block, Fletcher’s Olivia Hewett was successful, with three pins (Hilton Head, Mosley and North Bay’s Aleiyah Willett), plus a forfeit to go 4-0 on the day. Willett had two pins and a forfeit to claim second.
At the 125-130 group, Chiles’ Ashley Shaw was 4-1 for the area’s top effort, taking second with four pins and losing only by fall in the opening round to Hilton Head (SC).
Baker County’s Kylee Hopkins made it two Wildcat wins with her first at 135-140. Hopkins pinned all five of her opponents, including runnerup Aidan Arthur of Fletcher in the final round, to take the block. Arthur had three pins and a forfeit for second.
The Lady Tigers’ Carlee Morrison represented the hosts well with an unbeaten day to win the 145-155 block, winning all three of her matches by pin to run solo dolo for Columbia.
Finally, at 170-190, Fletcher’s Milani Tuinei was listed as first place in the weight class, after going 1-1, with one pin against Baker County and runnerup Lyla Peebles. and one loss by pin to another Baker County wrestler.
