ST JOHNS — Creekside fought off a pair of double-digit deficits to rally back for a home dual victory Wednesday night over Middleburg.
The Broncos forged early leads of 22-6 and 31-18, but the Knights would win four of the final five weights to take a 39-35 win.
Creekside (15-2) got an early pin in the dual from Conner Wright (138), followed by pins from Colton Leavell (170) and Tristen Darling (182) after Middleburg ran out to its first larger lead. Trailing by 13 with five to go, the Knights would get pins from Cole Anderson (285) and Stephan Carrion (126), the latter one giving Creekside just its second lead of the night in the final match. Justin Umali (120) added a key 8-7 decision to set the table for Carrion’s clincher.
Middleburg (2-1) got pins early from Logan Moore (145), Daniel Raines (152) and Aden Thornton (160) plus a 23-13 major from Caleb Eastwood at 132); after the Knights cut that initial lead to four, the Broncos pushed it back out to double digits behind a fall from Porter Loveland (195) and a 6-3 win from Tucker Cody (220). Bryan Davis (113) would get the Broncos their final weight-class win with a 16-6 major.
