1A-District 3 Duals
When & where: Wednesday at Fernandina Beach.
Teams in the field: In addition to the host Pirates (ranked 15th in 1A), Bishop Kenny, Bolles, Episcopal (12th), Paxon, Raines, Stanton, University Christian, West Nassau and Yulee (11th) may all compete; teams are not required to compete in the FHSAA dual-tournament series.
At stake: Top two teams will advance to the 1A-Region 2 round on January 12. The District 4 champ will host. The district champion will wrestle the District 4 runnerup in one quarterfinal, while the district runnerup will wrestle the District 4 champ in the other quarterfinal. The two winners will wrestle a second round. It’s very likely that the District 4 tournament will be in progress when this preview releases.
Synopsis: From what I have been seeing, I’m seeing — right now — a Yulee v Episcopal final, but what I am for sure seeing are two very good semis that will also include Bishop Kenny and Fernandina Beach; it won’t surprise me if either of those teams can get out. Whatever team is most right on the day, it could come down to that. West Nassau has some upset potential, but the Warriors have holes in the lineup; they’ll be better-positioned for the IBT run.
