2A-District 1 Duals
When & where: Wednesday at Pace. Start times: noon (weighin), 1:30 p.m. (wrestle start).
Teams in the field: In addition to the host Patriots, Choctaw, Crestview, Ft Walton Beach (ranked 15th as a team), Gulf Breeze (20th), Milton, Niceville and Tate may all compete, though there is not a requirement that teams compete.
At stake: Top two teams will advance to the 2A-Region 1 round on January 12 at the District 2 champion’s gym (District 2 event is scheduled for Thursday). The district champ will host and wrestle the District 2 runnerup, while the district runnerup will wrestle the District 2 champ. Quarterfinal winners will then wrestle a second match.
Synopsis: We had Pace winning districts in our preview, and as of now we’re not going to change that. The Patriots have had tests with Gardendale (AL), Capital City Classic and Trey Culotta, but haven’t had the chance to directly contest the other stronger teams in the district. Ft Walton Beach & Gulf Breeze appear to have separated themselves as the top challengers.
Potential individual milestones: Should Gulf Breeze get four duals on Wednesday, Dolphin senior Colson Elliott would have a chance to reach 150 career victories.
