#Preview: 2A-District 3 Duals

2A-District 3 Duals

When & where: Wednesday at Westside. Start times: 3 p.m. (weighin), 4:30 p.m. (wrestle).
Teams in the field: In addition to the host Wolverines, Ed White, Englewood, Middleburg (ranked 18th as a dual team), Oakleaf, Orange Park, Ponte Vedra, Ridgeview, Riverside and Terry Parker may all compete, though there is not a requirement that teams compete.
At stake: Top two teams will advance to the 2A-Region 1 round on January 12. The District 4 champ will serve as host. The district champion will wrestle the District 4 runnerup, while the district runnerup will face off against the District 4 champ. Quarterfinal winners will then wrestle a second match.
Synopsis: With potentially 10 teams in play, depending on whether tournament is double-elimination or not, things could depend in part upon conditioning and how teams can bounce back from early adversity. I still see the hosts and Oakleaf battling it out for the top spot. Oakleaf’s mid-December win over Clay was a big team milestone for the Clay County Knights, but Middleburg has been meeting challenges itself. Ridgeview and Westside are probably the top challengers for the top two spots.
Potential individual milestones: With one win Wednesday, Orange Park senior Trevion Sermons will reach the the 100-wins mark for his career.
