2A-District 4 Duals
When & where: Wednesday at New Smyrna Beach. Wrestling to start at 4 p.m.
Teams in the field: In addition to the host Barracudas, Belleview, Clay (17th as a team), Fleming Island (2nd), Mainland, Matanzas (12th), Pedro Menendez, Seabreeze and St Augustine may all compete, though there is not a requirement that teams compete.
At stake: Top two teams will advance to the 2A-Region 1 round on January 12. The district champion will host and wrestle the District 3 runnerup, while the district runnerup will wrestle the District 3 champ. Quarterfinal winners will then wrestle a second match.
Synopsis: There’s going to be a lot of firepower Wednesday afternoon in Volusia County. Fleming Island is the presumptive favorite, based upon dominant performances at Springstead and at Oakleaf as tuneups. I would project Clay and Matanzas to be in the other half of the bracket (if that’s the format used), and I would guess they would be in one semifinal and Fleming and the hosts in the other. On paper, right now, with everyone in the lineup I would project the Pirates for second, but they have not had their preseason projected full lineup just yet.
