3A-District 1 Duals
When & where: Wednesday at Creekside. Start times: 1 p.m. (weighin), 2 p.m. (wrestle).
Teams in the field: In addition to the host Knights, Atlantic Coast, Bartram Trail, First Coast, Fletcher, Mandarin, Nease and Sandalwood may all compete, though there is not a requirement that teams compete.
At stake: Top two teams will advance to the 3A-Region 1 round on January 12 in DeLand. The district champ will face Buchholz in a quarterfinal dual, while the district runnerup will take on the hosts. Winners in that round will face off in the semis.
Synopsis: While our preview is still somewhat intact, Creekside has raced ahead of the rest of the field and appear to be the presumptive favorite at this juncture, though we would and do expect a nice dual between Fletcher and Bartram Trail — our preseason picks — for the runnerup spot. Nease and Sandalwood should be in the mix for semifinal positions, but would need everything to break their way to move up fourth.
Prospective individual milestones: If Bartram were to get five duals in on Wednesday, senior Ethan Vugman could hit the 175-win mark and senior Preston Pena would have a chance to reach 100 wins; both are five away from those milestones.
