2A-District 8 (Nathan Brouwer Duals)
When & where: Saturday at Winter Springs.
Teams in the field: In addition to the host Bears (ranked 8th as a team), Deltona, East River, Edgewater, Horizon, Jones, Lake Buena Vista and Lyman may all compete.
At stake: Top two teams will advance to the 2A-Region 2 round on January 12. The district champion will host and wrestle Gateway, while the district runnerup will wrestle Lake Gibson. Quarterfinal winners will then wrestle a second match.
Synopsis: I still don’t see anything to dissuade me from my preseason pick of Winter Springs; the Bears are very solid and should win this district. I don’t think that anyone can push past East River for 2nd spot, but Deltona and Lyman MIGHT be able to make a game of it. Horizon’s got a few holes in duals, but might be able to reach the top four; they’ll be better for the IBT in February.
Potential individual milestones: With one win Saturday, Deltona senior Kevin Kerns will reach the 125-win career-wins mark (Note for out-of-area readers: We only track coverage-area teams for these sorts of statistics).
