Marine Corps Challenge
When & where: Saturday at Riverside.
Teams in the field: In addition to the host Generals, Beachside, Englewood, Godby, Keystone Heights, Mainland, Matanzas, Paxon, Providence, Stanton (also set for Joe Bees Memorial) and Wolfson are slated to attend. From outside the area, Centennial and Discovery will be on hand.
Returning team champion: None. Last year’s team champion, Episcopal, is not returning.
Returning individual champions: Elias Spurlin (Stanton), Carter Wilder (Matanzas), Toryion Stallings (Matanzas), Dylan Parkinson (Matanzas), Jordan Mills (Matanzas), Thomas Jones (Riverside) & Kamari Perkins (Riverside).
Synopsis: A different field this year for the Generals and this one-day IBT. Looking at it directly, I’d expect that Matanzas would be the solid favorite this season; the Pirates are the top returning team (2nd last year). That being said, the real chase could be for second and third place; this might be the weekend that a still-emerging team could break out and establish some good momentum to go into the rest of the year. Beachside might be that team. Mainland could be that team, Wolfson could be that team. From outside the area, Centennial could be that team. But somebody’s going to go home very happy with the day, somebody that will surprise us.
