APOPKA — Olympia had to fight its way past two very determined opponents to win its first FHSAA district duals title last Tuesday.
After a solid start in a 58-21 win over Windermere, the Titans had to scrap hard to turn back both host Apopka, 40-39, and then Ocoee, 42-40, to win the 3A-District 4 duals championship.

Four teams competed on Wednesday; the event was conducted in quad format. Host Apopka ensured advancement as well to the Region 1 round with its own hard-fought, 37-36 win over Ocoee in round 1 of the event, coupling that with a 48-30 win over Windermere. The Knights defeated the Wolverines, 53-24, to complete the day.
Olympia (unknown overall record due to missing dual at time of the event) will host a set of 3A-Region 1 quarterfinal and semifinal rounds on Wednesday this week. The Titans will face Timber Creek (2-1) in one quarterfinal, with Apopka (2-1) facing Hagerty (4-5) in the other; the two winners would then meet for a berth in the 3A FHSAA state duals tournament on January 20 at Osceola.
Tony Ho (126, 2 pins & major), Roland Flynn (132/138, 3 pins), Madden Bourst (145/152, 2 pins & major) and Ethan Rivera-Mendez (160/170, 2 pins) were each 3-0 for the Titans, while Matthew Cobb (106, pin) was 2-0. Phillip Lamendola (170/182, pin), Miles O’Toole (220, 2 pins) and Matthew Sheldon (285) were each 2-1 for Olympia.
Windermere (1-3 in duals) had two wrestlers go 3-0 on the day despite three double-digit losses, as Egehan Yilhan (106/113, 2 pins) and Lucas Drone (132/138, 2 pins) had undefeated tournaments, while Oscar Dunphy (160, decision) added a 2-1.
Individual specifics for Apopka and Ocoee (2-2 in duals) could not be added to this recap due to the missing dual result from round 1. If that is rectified today, we will update.
