1A-Region 1 Duals
When & where: Thursday at Suwannee, 4 p.m. (weighin), 5 p.m. (wrestle start).
Teams in the field: Suwannee (24-2), the District 2 champ, will wrestle District 1 runnerup Bay (10-9) in one quarterfinal round, while District 3 champ North Bay Haven (13-11) will wrestle Wakulla (8-4) in the other. The two quarterfinal winners will then wrestle in the semis.
At stake: The team winning twice Wednesday will advance to the first day of the 1A state duals tournament at Osceola and compete against one of four teams from Districts 3 & 4 for the region championship. A time schedule has not been posted by the FHSAA, but 1A competitions have — if past years are any indicator — been the first (mid-morning) round of competition.
Most recent competition: Suwannee took in the first day of competition at Fleming Island’s Keystone Memorial last weekend, while Bay and North Bay Haven both competed in Mosley’s Panhandle Championships (the Buccaneers were 4th out of 20 teams; the Tornadoes were 9th). Wakulla last competed in district duals last week.
