2A-Region 1 Duals
When & where: Thursday at Fleming Island, 4:30 p.m. (weighin), 5:30 p.m. (wrestle).
Teams in the field: Fleming Island (6-0), the District 4 champ, will wrestle District 3 runnerup Oakleaf (10-8) in one quarterfinal round, while District 3 champ Middleburg (15-3) will wrestle Clay (12-2) in the other. The two quarterfinal winners will then wrestle in the semis.
At stake: The team winning twice Wednesday will advance to the first day of the 2A state duals tournament at Osceola and compete against one of four teams from Districts 1 & 2 for the region championship. A time schedule has not been posted by the FHSAA, but 2A competitions have — if past years are any indicator — been the second (mid-afternoon) round of competition.
Most recent competition: Fleming Island, Middleburg and Oakleaf were all at the Golden Eagles’ Keystone Memorial two-day tournament, with callout competition on Friday and duals on Saturday. Fleming was 3-0 on Saturday, with one of those three wins over Oakleaf (77-6). Middleburg was 2-1 and the Clay County Knights were 1-2; the Broncos did not wrestle either Fleming or Oakleaf at the venue for Keystone, the Clay County Fairgrounds; Middleburg did defeat Fletcher in a dual on Tuesday night. Clay’s most recent competition was at district duals last week.
