#DailyRdp: 1/11 Duals

PONTE VEDRA BEACH — While most attention during the course of the week went to the FHSAA region round of competition, there were still several duals to be contested in the north midweek.

One key St Johns County contest saw host Nease utilize a four-match run between 170 and 220 to push past Tocoi Creek, 46-33, in the St Johns Panthers’ gym.

Nease (6-9) picked up pins from Jaiden Zajni (120), Trysten Oestereicher (145), Jacob Lutz (170) and Albio Jakupi (220), plus a 16-5 major from Parker Stamschror at 138.

For the Toros (5-3), they got falls from Aidan Hubbell (106), Willie Sims (132), Ryland McGinley (152) and Daniel Hageman (160), plus a 15-8 decision from Alessandro Bazan at 113.

In girls’ competition Wednesday night, Tocoi Creek had a better go of it, taking pins in both varsity matches from Saniyah Callahan (135) and Aryan Benson (140).

Nease will be at Lincoln’s Trojan Invitational duals event on Saturday, while Tocoi Creek will also be back on Saturday, traveling to Wolfson for its Wolfpack Challenge IBT.

Deltona 42, University (Orange City) 38: At University, the visitors picked up one last battle for Thursday’s 2A-Region 2 competition against Lake Gibson at Winter Springs.

Kevin Kerns (132), Kyle Yasses (138), Justin Rivera (152), Gevin De la Cruz (160) and Nathan Hatch (285) each won by fall for the Wolves (8-3 as of Wednesday).

As for the host Titans, they would get pins from Eli Nichols (120), Anthony Muscato (145), Carlito Betancourt (195) and Rubens Joseph (220), with Anthony Rosamonda (113) adding a 17-2 third-period tech (5:11) and Bryan Persinger pushing out to an 8-2 win at 170.

University (Orange City) is competing in St Cloud’s Cousins-Milton-Winter Memorial IBT, which began Friday.

Villages 59, Forest 23: At Villages, the hosts proved to be strong for the visiting Wildcats (1-3), who could only pick up four wins on the night.

Brent Ryals (132) won by fall for Forest, with Aydan Ruano adding a 19-4 tech-fall win at 120.

Forest is off until next week, when the Wildcats will host Belleview on Wednesday.

Raines tri-meet: At Raines, Riverside picked up its first (known) dual victories of the season, taking identical 54-18 victories over both Baldwin and the host Vikings.

Tyler Leonard (120, 2 pins), Jasmine Gore (138, pin), Ahmir Perry (145, pin), Anthony Kearney (170, 2 pins) and Thomas Jones (220, 2 pins) each had two victories for the Generals (2-1). Cedric Livingston (152) and Marc Patton (160) had pins over Baldwin, while Isaiah Chin (126), Orion Barnhardt (160) and MarQuez Griffin (195) won by fall over Raines.

The Vikings earned their first dual win of the year with a 48-36 victory over Baldwin. Jay’Quan Vaughn (113) and Gregory Townsend (285) were each double winners for Raines (1-20), while Amandla Davis (160) and D’Cari Wilson (220) took pins over Baldwin, while Jaylen Jackson (182) had a fall against Riverside.

As for the Indians (3-8), they got two wins from Aaron Miller (106) and Hayden Hunt (132, pin), with Taylor Davenport taking a pin in the loss to Riverside.

Raines will head to the Billy Saylor Invitational at Suwannee on Friday, while Riverside will compete at the Westside Roundrobin and Baldwin at the Parker Duals, both of those events starting Saturday.

Missing events: We have several events missing from Wednesday night’s schedule, including Orange Park’s Raider Duals #2 and the following duals events: Evans dual at Boone; and Palatka dual at Flagler Palm Coast.
