Lady Pirate Classic

When & where: Saturday at Matanzas
Local teams in the field: In addition to the host Lady Pirates, Bartram Trail, Beachside, Bishop Kenny, Chiles, Clay, Columbia, Creekside, Dr Phillips (also scheduled for Lady Bear Classic), Flagler Palm Coast, Fletcher, Florida High, Hagerty (also scheduled for LBC), Lincoln, Middleburg, Nease (also scheduled for LBC), Oakleaf, Pedro Menendez, St Augustine, Tocoi Creek, University (Orange City), Westside; Florida Christian is also in attendance.
Defending champion: Matanzas.
Returning individual champions: Mariah Mills (Matanzas); Tiana Fries (Matanzas); Brielle Bibla (Matanzas); Ava Burre (Bartram Trail); Jazzmine Moore (Oakleaf); Cheyenne Cruce (Middleburg).
Synopsis: This is, after Ponte Vedra’s event last month, probably the biggest regular-season girls tournament on the 2022-23 held within the coverage area. I think everyone will be chasing Matanzas, unsuccessfully, as the Lady Pirates should defend. I look for Dr Phillips (again, if they’re here) to be the top team for second, but don’t count out either Middleburg or Oakleaf, or possibly Bartram Trail, for that spot as well. We should see several excellent finals matches, as the rankings below indicate.
