PONTE VEDRA — In a night that brought together competition and also served as a display of talent of the better girls’ teams in northeast Florida, Ponte Vedra’s Senior Night quad meet ultimately celebrated the significant accomplishments of its senior class — Sophia Mallon, Olivia Richie and Josie Sagasser.

Girls wrestlers from neighboring Creekside, along with Clay County squads Middleburg and Oakleaf, joined the Lady Sharks in the rumble/festivities.

Six varsity and six exhibition matches were staged, for a total of 12 in all, with the Lady Sharks winning half. Oakleaf had four wins, with Creekside and Middleburg each taking one.

In the varsity side, Ponte Vedra’s Richie (competing at 135) and Erin Rizzuto (115) both were winners by pin; Oakleaf’s Kailani Barrientos won twice at 120, with a pin and major decision, and sister/teammate Adrianna Barrientos (105) added a third win (by fall). Middleburg’s Memphis Moses (110) closed out the varsity side with a pin.

Ponte Vedra would take four of the six wins in exhibition competition, three in head-to-head Lady Shark competition from Sagasser (145), Abbe Chandler (115) and Rizzuto (wrestling at 120).

Adrianna Barrientos added a second win in a 105 exhibition, while Creekside’s Anjel Balkenbush took an exhibition victory at 135.
