JACKSONVILLE — For the five teams in attendance at Terry Parker’s one-day tournament, seeing wrestlers take unnecessary forfeits wasn’t as important as simply getting mat time in competition.
So the Braves’ traditional dual format was dropped in favor of roundrobin competition; no team scores were kept on the day.
A total of 10 wrestlers were undefeated and wrestled at least two matches Saturday. Tops on the list was the host Braves’ Ben Helton (152/160), who was 4-0 with three pins and an 18-1 tech fall.
Six Ponte Vedra wrestlers were each 3-0 on the day, including Cooper Pratt (106, 2 pins & 18-2 TF), Baxley Hines (106, 3 pins), Xander Demi (132, pin & 2 decisions), David De Almeida (132, 3 pins), Brody Hines (145, pin/tech/major) and Talan Babin (170, 3 pins).
Additionally, Baldwin’s Taylor Davenport (195/220, 3 pins) was 3-0, while Palatka’s Evan Williamson (126, pin & decision) was 2-0.
