PALM COAST — Five straight wins lifted Matanzas to a repeat win in the #FightForFlagler over crosstown host Flagler Palm Coast Wednesday night.
The Pirates went on a 29-0 run between 285 and 126, erasing an early 12-6 Flagler lead, and made it stand up in a 42-30 victory over the Bulldogs.
After the teams traded pins (Jordan Mills at 182 for the Pirates and Ethaniel Laupepa at 220 for FPC, plus a Flagler forfeit at 195), Matanzas (9-7) strung together four pins from Tyler Thomas (285), Timothy McLean (106), Mariah Mills (113) and Kaden Golder (120), plus a 27-12 tech fall from Toryion Stallings (126) to build a 35-12 margin.
Flagler Palm Coast (record unknown due to missing results) cut that lead in half on a forfeit win at 132 and decisions from John Hald (15-10 in sudden victory at 138) and Jesse Baugher (17-13 at 145), but Dylan Parkinson clinched the dual for the Pirates with his 12-4 major at 152.
The teams traded victories to close out the dual, with Kelton Howard (160) winning by fall for the Bulldogs and Landon Wright (170) winning in sudden victory, 12-10, for the Pirates.
Both teams will reconvene in the Flagler gym on Friday for the 37th Flagler Rotary, a two-day IBT.
Hagerty 43, Oviedo 31: In the crosstown conflict at Oviedo, the visiting Huskies (12-6) put the pain to the hosts (17-4) up top, with a 27-0 run to close out the dual.
Oviedo went up 16-0 on pins from Gunner Essary (106) and Josh Sabbia (113), plus a 12-3 major from Jesus Ramos (120), but Hagerty equaled that with a 16-0 run of its own behind pins from Benjamin Wolgamuth (126) and Logan Acey-Kriegshauser (132), plus a 13-4 major from Nikolas Blake at 138.
Oviedo then pushed out again, this time behind a 15-0 run fueled by pins from Gunner Forsberg (152) and Lukas Crawley (160), plus an 18-13 win from Clayton Mitchell at 145.
But Hagerty was equal to the task down the stretch, with a forfeit win at 170, a 9-6 decision at 182 from Connor Gilliam, followed by back-to-back-to-back pins by Hunter Tate (195), Landon Revis (220) and Trevor Covelli (285).
Hagerty travels to George Jenkins on Friday for the one-day Moskowitz IBT, while Oviedo will be closer to home, going to Timber Creek for the one-day Wolfpack IBT on Saturday.
#BattleForTheHammer: At West Orange, Ocoee (5-8) too advantage of a short-handed host line, with five forfeit wins that helped the Knights turn back the Warriors, 49-28.
Ocoee took pins from Nazzio Huyler (106) and Brian Vo (145), with Donell Grimes (152) picking up an 18-4 major and Andy Delva hanging on for a 9-7 win at 170.
West Orange (record unknown due to missing results) were fueled by falls from Raymond Cavey (126), Giovanny Perez (132) and Stacey Rhodes (138), plus a 14-0 major from Magnus Putigna at 160.
Both teams will reconvene weekend after this coming one at Winter Park for the Metro Conference two-day IBT.
Winter Park takes pair: As part of its Senior Night festivities, the host Wildcats defeated Edgewater (48-24) and Wekiva (66-18). Wekiva took the middle dual over Edgewater, 51-22.
Double winners for Winter Park (4-3), engaging in its first duals since district duals at the beginning of the month, were Jacob Rothman (106), Truman Pierce (113), Mason Moses (126), James Gonzalez (138, pin), Joseph Parker (152, 2 pins) and Liam Glassmeyer (220, 2 pins).
Additionally, Isaac Flores (285) won by fall in the win over Edgewater, while Noel Marrero (160), Derrick Dunn (170), Cole Siomon (182) and Dequnnte Samuels (195) each had pins against the Mustangs.
Speaking of Wekiva, Connor Figueroa (120/126, pin) was the Mustangs’ lone double-winner.
Matthew Perkins (152), Demoreus Stokes (160), Williamson Louis (170) and Shyne Love (285) won by fall for Wekiva (3-5) against Edgewater, with Charles Hall (220) taking a 13-7 decision. Thomas Tindall (132) and James Mixon (285) won by fall for the Mustangs in the loss to Winter Park.
Both the Wildcats and Mustangs will reconvene next on February 3, again at Winter Park, this time for the two-day Metro Conference IBT.
Lake Mary, Lake Brantley split: In a double-dip boys/girls dual at Lake Brantley, the visiting Lady Rams defeated the hosts, 42-33, only to see the Patriot boys rally for a 51-30 dual victory.
In girls competition, the Lady Patriots held the lowers, with pins from Angali Rodriquez (105), Lilah Nation (115), Ella Belt (125) as well as Hensley Carter at 155, plus a 9-3 win at 110 from Vanessa Martin-Soto.
But the visitors were able to set the pace in the upper half, with pins from Savannah Strickland (120), Grace Doyle-Eberhard (135), Olivia Boni (140), Tayla Sutton (190) and Ahmya Stokes (235).
In the boys’ dual, the Patriots (5-2) won six straight matches between 152 and 220, with pins from Giovanni Duany (152), Jake Jessee (170), Christopher Swanson (195) and Shawn Hernandez (220) during that run. Zaiden Rodriguez (106) and Dario Duany (132) also had pins, with Thomas Abrahamson winning by a 6-1 count at 160.
The Rams (unknown record due to missing results) got pins from Logan Morris (126), Alex Chesloff (138) and Aden Eliason (145).
Lake Brantley boys will be at Flagler this weekend, while the Lake Mary girls will host their 2nd annual Lady Rams Tournament of Champions on Saturday. The Patriot girls and Ram boys will reconvene at Oviedo’s Seminole Athletic Conference tournament on February 4.
Lake County Conference: At Mt Dora, South Lake was 1-2 in duals against conference opponents, taking a 54-30 win over Leesburg, but falling to host Mt Dora (54-30) and Tavares (46-35).
Aden Pierce (113, decision), Jaydius Bognar (152, 3 pins) and Tegan Beltram (170, 2 pins) were triple-winners for the Eagles (3-11 in duals), while Haley Harvey (106, pin) and Zoe Williamson (145, pin) both contributed 2-0 nights for South Lake.
Dylan Escobar (160) won by fall for the Eagles in the win over Leesburg, while Jesse Barker (285) had a pin in the loss to Tavares.
South Lake is now off until the final day of the regular season, when the Eagles will compete in Villages’ TD Talbott Legion Duals on February 11.
DeLand 49, New Smyrna Beach 28: At New Smyrna Beach, the Bulldogs (14-7) had their first competition since the 3A state semis at Osceola last weekend, taking six straight wins from 138 through 182, going on a 30-0 run.
After the hosts (14-11) got out to a 4-0 start on Jonathan Bruner’s 15-2 major, Kellen Chapman (138), Mathias Franz (152) and Gavin Rodriguez-Cayro (182) each won by fall, with a forfeit and decisions from Joshua Folsom (8-1 at 145) and Mason Perkins (4-1 at 170) building a 30-4 lead for the Bulldogs (14-7).
The ‘Cudas cut that lead to 30-16 on pins from Derek King (195) and Dylon York (220), but DeLand put on another 15-0 run to put the dual out of reach, with pins from Marion Smokes (285) and Edwin Alsina (106), plus a 12-6 win from Tyler Bracero at 113. The teams then traded victories to close out the dual, with Spencer Timm (120) by fall for the hosts and Grady Bryant (126) taking a 15-3 major for DeLand.
DeLand will be at Flagler Rotary this weekend, while New Smyrna Beach will head southwest to Punta Gorda and Charlotte’s Gene Gorman Duals, also a two-day event.
Buchholz 68, Columbia 6: At Columbia, the Tigers (4-15) celebrated Senior Night, but it was the Bobcats (8-5) that got the better of the contest.
Columbia’s two seniors in the boys lineup both took losses, with Jayden Thomas (138) by fall against the Bobcats’ Cavarius Liddie and Alexander Ulloa (145) taking a 6-2 loss to Buchholz’s Laine Slayton at 145. The Tigers got their lone points on Kareem Kinloch’s fall at 170.
For Buchholz, Jun Jie Zheng (113) and Hugh Davis (120) joined Liddie as pinners, while Finn Buchanan took a tech-fall victory (tech time 3:49) at 126.
Columbia was back in action Thursday night at Baker County’s Tri-County Duals, while Buchholz will get back on the mat Saturday at Timber Creek’s Wolfpack IBT.
Timber Creek 73, Evans 6: At Timber Creek, the Wolfpack tuned up for weekend hosting duties with a one-sided dual win over their district rivals.
Keegan Clark (120), Andrew Wittenberg (152), Austin Maloney (170), Daniel Pacheco (182), Rocco Jonigan (195) and Jayden Smith (220) all won by fall for Timber Creek (8-3). Juan Viera-Paulos (160) took an 18-10 major, while Peter Nesheiwat (285) won by 5-1 decision.
Evans’ lone victory came at 126, where Jaylen Clayton won via second-period pin for the Trojans (1-7).
Timber Creek will host Women’s Metro on Friday and the Wolfpack IBT on Saturday; Evans will have delegations at both events.
Pirates sweep: At Riverside, Fernandina Beach (16-7) rolled out to a pair of double-digit wins, defeating Ed White (63-12) and the host Generals (48-27).
Crew Richter (113), Caden Kubatzke (126, 2 pins), Cael Kubatzke (132, pin), Patrick Lee (138, 2 pins), Cole Misciagna (145, 2 pins), Enzo Gamba (160, 2 pins), Felix McDuffy (182, 2 pins) and Gauge Housely (195, pin) all were double winners for Fernandina Beach.
Anthony Fancher (170) and Peyton White (220) each won by fall in the Ed White victory, while Blaike Harrington (152) took a 9-8 win in that same dual.
Results were not available on Ed White v Riverside, see more below. Fernandina Beach was back in action Thursday with a homoe quad, while Riverside will be at Paxon’s one-day IBT on Saturday. Ed White is now off until the Clay Rotary on February 3-4.
Deltona tri-meet: At home, the Wolves (10-5) romped to a pair of identical 75-6 wins over Atlantic and Pine Ridge.
Every Deltona starter was a double winner for Deltona, including lower-weights Javonni Carraturo (106, pin), Joel Pena (113), Kyle Kerns (120, pin), Austin Riis (126, pin), Kevin Kerns (132, pin), Kyle Yasses (138, 2 pins) and Randall Coraspe-Cruz (145, 2 pins).
Up top, Justin Rivera (152, 2 pins), Gevin De la Cruz (160, decision), Christian Rivera (170, pin), Nathaniel Tsang (195, 2 pins), Aaron Debouver (220, pin) and Nathan Hatch (285, 2 pins) all were double winners.
Deltona will be at Flagler Palm Coast for the 37th Flagler Rotary.
Palatka sweep: At Keystone Heights, Palatka (5-9) took victories over Interlachen (36-18) and the host Indians (36-33).
Double winners for the Panthers were Ishmael Foster (138, pin), Mikade Harvey (145/152, 2 pins), Gabriel Huejardo (145/152, 2 pins), Barrett Clark (195, decision) and Ben Clark (285, pin). Dalton Kerwin (126) and Braxton Stewart (220) both took pins and Evan Williamson (17-10 at 132) won by decision in the victory over Interlachen, while Gavin Chambliss (126) won by fall in the win over Keystone Heights.
Interlachen (5-14) won the third dual of the night, turning back the Indians (3-11), 48-23.
Tony Ortiz (106, pin), Lial Landry (160, 2 pins) and George Rodriguez (182, pin) were each double-winners for the Rams, who also collected pins in the win over the hosts from Everett Rayhorn (145) and Azarius Green (152), plus an injury-default win for John Sanders (132).
Keystone Heights got two wins from Henry Carhuayo (170) and Steven Raab (220, 2 pins). Alyx Nichols (160) won by tech fall and and Phoenix Contes (132) took a 9-1 major in the loss to Palatka, while Riley McGorty (126) won by fall in the loss to Interlachen.
