OCALA — West Port defeated four opponents last Wednesday to win the Marion County Interscholastic Athletic Conference title.
The Wolfpack turned back Dunnellon (70-9), Belleview (53-27), Lake Weir (78-5) and Forest (45-36) to win the one-day duals roundrobin at home.
West Port (7-2 in duals for the season) saw five wrestlers go 4-0 on the night, as Mathew Pishotta (106, pin), Caden Perez-Pantoja (132, 2 pins), Jhusthino Miranda (138, 2 pins), Evan Lewis (170, pin) and Raymond Valdez (220, decision) all won four times.
Additionally, the Wolfpack got 3-1 records from Prince Valentine (120), Ethen Crews (126, 2 pins), Harrison Caputo (152, 2 pins), David Hill (160,) and Joseph Paci (195, 3 pins).
Belleview, with wins over Lake Weir (no final score available), Forest (40-36) and Dunnellon (54-18), was second at 3-1. No complete set of results was reported for the Diamondbacks (season record unavailable due to these and other missing results).
Forest, with wins over Dunnellon (54-21) and Lake Weir (no final score available) was third; Dunnellon edged Lake Weir, 31-30, for fourth.
The Wildcats (9-8 in duals for the season) got 4-0 performances from Aydan Ruano (120, pin), Brent Ryals (126, 3 pins) and Cane Fernandez (285, 4 pins).
Forest got 3-1 efforts from Sabastian Arthur (106), Scott Smith (113, pin), Skyler Hackl (145, 3 pins) and Ellis Lawson (195, 3 pins).
According to a preseason schedule we received on Belleview, the Diamondbacks will wrap up the regular season at Friday’s Greg Peery Memorial at Merritt Island. West Port will travel to Ocoee’s one-day Ocoee Mat Classic, while the Wildcats will compete in Saturday’s TD Talbott Legion Duals event at Villages, also on Saturday.
