By MATMEN, Tuesday, 7:25 p.m.

District 6 Girls IBT

When & where: Wednesday at Freedom (Orlando), 1:30 p.m. (wrestle start).
Teams in the field: In addition to the Lady Patriots, the following teams are assigned to this district: Boone, Celebration, Cypress Creek, East River, Gateway, Harmony, Lake Nona, Oak Ridge, Osceola, Poinciana, St Cloud, Timber Creek, Tohopekaliga. Timber Creek is the only team from the coverage area in this district.
At stake: Top four wrestlers in each of 14 weight classes will automatically advance to the Region 2 tournament back at Freedom on February 17. Additional fifth- and sixth-place wrestlers at each weight may be selected to advance as additional region qualifiers to fill out the region bracket. Those wrestlers are selected via an FHSAA schematic.
Defending team champion: Freedom.
Returning individual champions: Maite Coutinho (Freedom); Cameron Galvin (Freedom); Keyla DeLeon (Freedom); Hayden Proulx (Timber Creek); Salexa Lontoc-Ortiz (Freedom); Stacey Pule (Osceola)*; Kamillah Savinon (Tohopekaliga)*; Tenaisha Lopez (Tohopekaliga)*; Keira Suro (Osceola)*; Cathia Timas (Osceola)*; Kaylie Collado (Poinciana)*; Lilly Yambor (Gateway)*; Emiliana Martinez (Gateway)*; Fedline Joseph (Gateway)*.
* — won District 7 titles last year
Synopsis: I would project Freedom, based upon the results of the season, to be the solid favorite for this one, with Gateway, Osceola and Timber Creek well in the mix for second place. I would guess most of the Lady Wolfpack regular competitors will be in the mix for at least the region round, whether as automatic or additional qualifiers. This district remains certainly one of the, if not the, strongest in the state, and we’ll start seeing that at regions and state before long.
