#Preview: Girls’ District 4

By MATMEN, Wednesday, 4:30 p.m.

District 4 Girls IBT

When & where: Thursday at Hagerty, 4:30 p.m. (wrestle start).
Teams in the field: In addition to the Lady Huskies, the following teams are assigned to this district: DeLand, Deltona, Forest, Lake Brantley, Lake Howell, Lake Mary, Lyman, Mainland, Oviedo, Seabreeze, Seminole, Tavares, University (Orange City), West Port & Winter Springs. Not all schools will have representation in the meet.
At stake: Top four wrestlers in each of 14 weight classes will automatically advance to the Region 1 tournament at Matanzas on February 18. Additional fifth- and sixth-place wrestlers at each weight may be selected to advance as additional region qualifiers to fill out the region bracket. Those wrestlers are selected via an FHSAA schematic.
Defending team champion: University (Orange City).
Returning individual champions: Jaelyn Sunseri (University-OC); Brianna Pena (Seminole); Bryanne Kaminsky (University-OC); Lanyla Hudspeth (Lake Brantley); Jayden Dodge (West Port).
Synopsis: This is still looking like it could be an open contest, as we thought it might in the preseason. Mainland’s looking mostly solid in the upper weights, but hasn’t shown it has a lot of representation across the lineup this year. I see the fight right now looking like it will lean to Lake Brantley, at this point, after their solid performance at Seminole Athletic Conference last Saturday. Lake Mary and University (Orange City) and Mainland should all be in the mix for top-3 positions and there’s probably another five teams that will have a few in mix as well.
