TALLAHASSEE — For the first time since the 2015-16 season, Lincoln can assert bragging rights across the length of the Big Bend portion of north-central Florida.
That assertion came after the Trojans took down visiting Wakulla, 40-27, in the regular-season finale for both teams.
Upper weights carried the day for Lincoln (23-5), with 27 points — four pins and a decision from Connor Edwards (152, pin), Mason Crowder (170, pin), Israel Williams (182, pin), Jakob Nowak (195) and Ryder Luck (8-5 win at 285) — from 152 on up.
The Trojans also got a fall from Jashawn Washington (126), an 8-0 major from Vaniel Caceres (113) and a 4-2 win from Zakary Jurado (120).
Wakulla (16-7) got back-to-back-to-back pins from Caleb Orr (132), Brady Jackson (138) and Jae T Thaxton (145), with decision victories from Connor Brown (9-3 at 106), Zabdiel Garcia-Esquilin (3-1 at 160) and Kohl Pippin (3-1 at 220).
Lincoln will host the 2A-District 2 IBT on February 16, while Wakulla will have 1A-District 2 hosting duties on the 17th.
Olympia 57, Dr Phillips 21: At Dr Phillips, the visitors (12-5) won each match between 126 and 182 to seal the team win.
Matthew Cobb (106), Tony Ho (126), Brian Nguyen (138), Madden Bourst (145), Ethan Rivera-Mendez (152), Philip Lamendola (170), Zack Winkelkotter (182) and Miles O’Toole (220) all won by fall for the Titans, while Jorge Carpio (160) survived a wild match in taking a 17-15 decision.
The Panthers (no record available due to missing results) got pins From Corderis Pitts (113), Kramar Brown (195) and Jaden Dorsett (285), plus a 9-7 win at 120 from Gabriel L’Hommedieu.
While Olympia’s regular season is now complete, Dr Phillips has one more regular-season date to complete, traveling to Ocoee on Saturday for the Ocoee Hall of Fame Mat Classic, a one-day IBT.
Winter Springs 64, Oviedo 12: At Winter Springs, the hosts allowed just two max-point wins to the Lions (17-5).
Oviedo’s lone contested victory was at 152, where Lukas Crawley earned a second-period fall.
The dual was the Lions’ regular-season finale; they’ll be back on the competitive mats on Wednesday, at Timber Creek for the 3A-District 3 IBT.
DeLand 59, Tohopekaliga 15: At DeLand on the Bulldogs’ senior night, the hosts wrapped up one of the, if not the, most successful regular seasons in program history behind 11 weight-class wins.
Peyton Senez (132), Kellen Chapman (138), Mathias Franz (152), Zane Canada (160) and Gavin Rodriguez-Cayro (182) all took pins for DeLand (15-7), which also got major decisions from Grady Bryant (19-5 at 126) and Tyron Moore (13-5 at 220), plus a 6-0 win from Joshua Folsom at 145.
DeLand is now off until Wednesday and the 3A-District 2 IBT at Lake Mary.
Missing results: We received scores only from Lyman’s tri-meet, as of this publication, with the host Greyhounds defeating both Lake Mary and Lake Howell, with the Rams turning back the Silver Hawks in the middle round. Upon receipt of scoresheets, we will update this recap.
