#Recap: 2nd Chance Leads To 5-0 Chiles Night

ORANGE PARK — Chiles was slated to come to Raider Duals #3 last month, but did not get to make the trip; the event was cancelled due to weather-travel considerations.

Wednesday night at Orange Park HS, the Timberwolves got a chance to make good their plans, and they took five dual victories at Raider Duals #4, with a nine-point win over Yulee, 45-36, their closest of the five.

Otherwise, Chiles (19-4) took wins over Pedro Menendez (57-24), Ridgeview (48-16), Orange Park (71-12) and Fernandina Beach (58-18), good for an average margin of victory of 35 points per dual on the night.

The Timberwolves had six wrestlers go 5-0 on the night, as Patrick Brooks (113, 2 pins, tech/major/decision), Sam Tolomeo (120, 3 pins & tech), Ethan Jackson (126, 3 pins & decision), Garrett Marschka (138, 3 pins & 2 decisions), Cooper Hill (145/152, 5 pins) and Dillon Elliott (220, pin & 2 techs) all won five matches.

Jason Marsala (106, pin), Scott Greenwald (145/152, 3 pins & decision) and Cody Elliott (182/195, 3 pins & decision) all were 4-1 for Chiles. BB Potter (182/195, decision) was 3-1, with Brody Vandewater (160) grabbing a 3-2 night.

Here is a summary for the other eight teams in the tournament:

Yulee (4-1 tournament, 14-9 overall) — The Hornets had dual wins over Florida High (42-34), St Augustine (48-24), Ridgeview (57-22) and Pedro Menendez (57-21) in effectively taking second overall.

Dylan Johns (170, 4 pins), Alex Smith (195, 2 pins) and Braylen Ricks (285, 2 pins) all were 5-0 for Yulee, with both Roger Plouffe (145, 2 pins) and Michael McNair (160, pin) both going 4-1. Latrell Mallory (106), Austin Adamson (138, 2 pins) and Cayden Ricks (220, decision) each were 3-2 for the Hornets.

Florida High (4-1 tournament, 21-7 overall) — The Seminoles took victories over Fernandina Beach (53-12), Bartram Trail (54-30), St Augustine (65-3) and Orange Park (46-24), helping coach Clay Allen go over the 100-wins mark in duals for his career.

Nicholas Roeder (152/160, 5 pins) and Xander Hawkes (1282, 2 pins, tech & decision) were both 5-0 for Florida High, while Jordan Haigler (170, pin & decision) was 4-1. Dewan Richardson (113, pin & tech), Reis Suskey (120, 2 techs), Troy Carroll (132/138, 2 pins & decision), Terence Hinson (132, 2 pins) and Josiah Houston (220, decision) all were 3-0 for the Noles, with Hunter Stanley (126/132, major) posting a 3-1 tournament record.

Fernandina Beach (3-2 tournament, 21-9 overall) — The Pirates got dual victories over St Augustine (47-18), Pedro Menendez (42-36) and Bartram Trail (47-25).

Cole Misciagna (145, 3 pins & 2 techs) led the way for Fernandina Beach, going 5-0. Gauge Housely (195, 2 pins) was 4-1, while Lucas Crawford (182, 2 pins) was 3-1, with Anthony Fancher (170, 2 pins) and Peyton White (220, pin) each going 3-2 on the tournament for the Pirates.

Ridgeview (3-2 tournament, 16-11 overall) — The Clay County Panthers poicked up victories over Orange Park (60-10), Bartram Trail (58-24) and St Augustine (60-12).

Jason Barrett (106, pin & major) was the Panthers’ lone unbeaten at 4-0, while Kaiden Tibbetts (132, 4 pins) and Tanner Tague (170, 2 pins) were both 4-1. Rayhn Hutchinson (195, 2 pins) was 3-1, with Sean Davis (120, pin), Reese Brewer (126, pin), Christian Garcia (138, 2 pins & tech), Shane Burnette (152, 2 pins & major), James Laycock (182, 2 pins) and Raymond Goforth (220, tech) all going 3-2 on the night.

Bartram Trail (2-3 tournament, 22-12 overall) — The Bears employed a mix-and-match of varsity and JV competitors, with a few getting their first consistent starts, as Bartram took wins over St Augustine (42-28) and Pedro Menendez (40-36). Ethan Vugman (126/132, 3 pins) and Tyler Vernon (285, 3 pins) were both 5-0, while Caeden Viner (145, 2 pins) was 4-1. Zachary Mondares (160) and Ethan Strohl (170, 2 pins & decision) each turned in 3-2 tournaments as well.

Pedro Menendez (1-4 tournament, 14-9 overall) — Nineteen different Falcon wrestlers saw action during the night, in which Pedro Menendez picked up a 37-36 win (criteria) over the hosts. Matthew Thorn (126/132) was 3-0 with three pins, while Logan Geist (120, pin) was one of just three Menendez wrestlers to compete in all five duals, going 3-2.

Orange Park (0-4 tournament, 4-17 overall) — The Raiders saw Elijah Campbell (285, 2 pins) go 4-0 on the night, while Terrion Butler (195, 2 pins) was 3-1.

St Augustine (0-5 tournament, unknown overall record due to missing results) — The Yellow Jackets brought seven wrestlers and only four made it through all five rounds. Brenner Logan (113, 2 pins, major & 2 decisions) was 5-0 for St Augustine, while Christian Jackson (152, 3 pins & decision) was 4-1.
